That time we tied my cousin to a tree {things I won’t tell my kids}

When I was young, I did a lot of things that were probably a bit odd or were just plain messed up. I do believe that some of it even comes from spending a lot of time when I was a kid in a town with only one stop light. Honestly forget about city kids getting into all the trouble, I think kids in small town with nothing to do can get into just about as much trouble. We tried a lot of mischievous things when we were young and by we I totally mean myself and my sister. We are only 14 months apart and still to this day spend a ton of time together.

What we did:

Anyway I am going out there now but this particular incident occurred when I was probably 11 or 12. It also involves two of my cousins and the fact that we were bored and we all probably watched too many horror movies by that early age.

Ok so what happened this particular day was that we were wandering around the back road that we had a house on (remember when kids could do that in 80s or very early 90s?). One of us had the brilliant idea that we would mock tie the youngest of us who was maybe 8 or 9 if that to a tree on the side of the road and put ketchup all over her and see if anyone would stop.

I am probably totally getting some screwed up looks now, and honestly at the time we were kids and none of us were thinking of any consequences. And if the other three involved were asked now days they would all most likely say that it was my idea.

Well anyway the plan was that if someone were to stop she would jump away from the tree and run into the ditch where the rest of us were hiding. So we put our plan in motion.

After a while someone totally stopped!!!!!!

She ran and we all started running down the ditch and hid under a nearby bridge. The car didn’t stay stopped and I vaguely remember them screaming something about damn kids as they drive on but we were scared enough that someone actually stopped that we didn’t pull that again.

So that was the time we tied my cousin to a tree.

Why I will never tell my kids:

I would never tell my kids about doing this particular thing because let’s face it my kids are the ones who get on a bridge at Lake Tonkawa (low right above water) and play Mortal Kombat and the winner wins by knocking the other off the bridge). I mention that because I would nearly be afraid that my kids would totally try to out do what we did and probably give someone a heart attack in this day and age.

Maybe my next story will be about the time we snuck out when my Grandma was asleep to go cow tipping.
